Be a super-stylish MOTB!

Top tips to help you look amazing!

As mother-of-the-bride you want to look your best! Here are our best tips to help you find the perfect outfit, accessories and style...

1. Communicate!

Talk to your daughter or daughter-in-law-to-be about what they are planning for their day. Take into consideration the colourscheme, the theme and the venue. If you are worried about not looking as they would hope on the day, then why not ask them to shop with you for your outfit? After all, hopefully you'll be helping them pick their dress so it would be nice for them to help you as well!

2. Beware the competetive MOTB...

There's nothing worse than getting into a competition with the other 'mother' on the day to see who can pull of the most show-stopping outfit! One of our readers had this problem: "Each of the mothers wanted something that little bit more special than the other," she told us. "Hats got more and more elaborate and corsage designs got so big they threatened to overshadow my bouquet! In the end I had to sit them down and ask them to be a little more restrained. I dread to think how they would have looked in the photos if they'd carried on!"

3. Enjoy colour!

Some of the best MOTB outfits we've seen have used colour, but in several different shades to create a tonal but sophisticated look. So for example choose a lilac dress with a slightly lighter or darker jacket and accessories, and shoes which are similar in colour or a neutral such as ivory or silver. Weddings are happy occasions, so don't feel you can't add a splash of colour to the day!

4. Think about your figure

Here at Perfect Wedding we write countless articles advising brides to be to think about their figure before looking at dresses and as MOTB, the same rules apply to you! So for example if you are pear-shaped choose an A-line outfit which will show off your tiny top and skim your larger hips. Apple shapes should look for more of an empire-line top to skim over the tummy, while petite ladies look best in neat, tailored outfits. In any case, try to show off your best points — so avoid a sleeveless top if you're conscious of your arms, or a short skirt if you hate your knees!

5. Search out great accessories

So often we hear from MOTBs who don't want to feel hidden under a huge hat and are keep to look as vibrant and gorgeous as they feel! In this case, look for a gorgeous hair clip or 'fascinator' (these are so on-trend at the moment that even Top Shop and Accessorize have great selections!) and treat yourself to an amazing pair of shoes. After all, this is your chance to treat yourself too!!
