It's vintage, darling!

Top tips for retro brides!

With everyone from Dita Von Teese to Katy Perry grabbing headlines with a retro look, it's definitely never been more popular! Your wedding day is the perfect time to grab yourself a bit of retro-style glamour too, so read on to find out how to create two fantastic looks...!

Twenties Babe

It might seem like retro prom-style dresses are everywhere, but there is a slinkier option which is perfect for sophisticated weddings — be inspired by the 1920s! The key to this look is to pick a slinky, gown-like dress with twinkling details (ideal for slim and athletic figures). Jenny Packham has some beautiful designs in her collection, or you could look at Swanson (shown here) from Ian Stuart's Belle Epoch bridal collection. As for your shoes, look for dainty T-bars perfect for dancing the night away — we love the new range from hot new designer Victoria Allinson, who bases her designs on rare vintage shoes! Finally, add a hair detail such as a crystal headband or sparkling hair comb. Look at the selection from Flo & Percy, a great company who use vintage jewellery to create new pieces!

Fifties Chick

There’s one thing you have to have for this look — and that’s a gorgeous full-skirted wedding dress! Look for one with a skirt which is just below the knee or tea-length, preferably with lots of layers of net skirt underneath to create volume. The ultimate designer in this area has to be Candy Anthony whose beautiful dresses incorporate flowers, bows, cute cap sleeves and fabulous coloured underskirts! As for your shoes, peep-toes are a must for this look (and you need great shoes with a shorter wedding dress!). We love the designs by Harriet Wilde, while for your accessories choose a hat or fascinator with mini veil — or for a simple but cute look, a bow-detail headband!
